GOOD MORNING WORLD
hear winter rain falling as wild mountain roses
it is you hiding behind dark whisky moon
if you stay away my heart will turn into shards of glass
Look! red shouldered hawk perched in his monastery
praying to rising sun as I to you
Beloved opiate of my soul
come to me
play your divine lyre
I wait for you in the quiet elegance
of my soul

GOOD MORNING WORLD
last night our farm was speckled with snow flowers
bushy tail squirrel nestled in his tree house
whitetail deer feasting on last summers harvest
yet winter lingers on
I can no longer wait to plant my garden
winter pansies, a bird feeder near the potting shed
for flowers yet to come
but for now
only this.

GOOD MORNING WORLD
I’m invigorated sitting here in my old robe and timeless wooly socks, the type old men wear when they go fishing … you know the kind. The intoxicant of morning air shakes off the monotony of sleep. Good to let vagrant trickles of laughter escape that part of me who wants to burst out laughing for no reason at all – even if it is 4 am.

GOOD MORNING WORLD
When early morning air is crisp as ripe apples, I sit in wait for my first glimpse of dawn. My neighbor’s two horses race when moon has yet to sleep. Repeatedly they throw their heads back and jump with such abandon their feet almost leave the ground. So free nothing steals their joy or maybe it’s the music they hear that makes them dance.

GOOD MORNING WORLD
Poor little human heart, I’m vexed you refuse to look beyond your nose. Let’s sit together this early morning like two old grizzles drinking coffee and eating nachos while dawn wraps herself around our shoulders. Look … the sun is coming up like mangoes and ripe persimmons. Isn’t love grand?

GOOD MORNING WORLD
For someone plain-spoken as me, I seek compassionate folk who spend their life accumulating wealth of love. The academic spends his destiny filling his brain with knowledge; never considering the inevitable, then uses a bullhorn to advertise how much he knows. At journey’s end what value words and no spiritual wealth? Please gift me that same love moon bird has for the moon.

GOOD MORNING WORLD
The greatest part of any day is to wake up in the flow of life’s drumbeat and without thought or debate embrace the unpredictable. It is enough to know life has settled on my shoulders. Just once I would like to pour myself into one of those long stem ice cream sundae glasses and sip the whole of dawn until it sets once again.

GOOD MORNING WORLD
Dear Heart, I would like to take you on a romp of sorts nearby. You seem anxious lately as though your struggles insurmountable. Come on … say yes. We’ll sit on the pier like two old, half-soused, wrinkled elephants, get lost in waves that rise to a crescendo, then fall, then cover shoreline with magical shells that, when held to ear, you will hear ocean’s roar. Ever heard sea birds in flight – symphony of wild ocean sounds? Albatross, his massive wing span glides on wind currents like Nureyev in his finest hour. Come on … no buts about it; we shall masquerade as drunken lovers until hearts so light, we fly home.

GOOD MORNING WORLD’
what is it about early morning that dazzles the heart
I sit on the stoop in wait for the first blush of dawn
until my neighbor
opens the door to let her little yipper out
she yells over at me "what in hell you lookin at?"
in the old days I would have given her
the international hand signal but today
I just shrug and wait for my Cherokee dawn
it is a new day and I’m part of it all
even the flutter of dragonfly wings
sound like music

GOOD MORNING India
I got up early this morning when darkness still covered the land. It was just had a feeling the stars would still be shining. It’s not good to make friends with a bed; too much sleep imprisons the soul. But to sit here in crisp late night air stargazing in wonderment, and discover some lonesome adventurer looking down at me makes my heart break out in laughter. I call up. “Send me a sign, a paper airplane will do.” Just the thought makes my heart laugh … and I think on you as the new day slumbers.
